The following is an excerpt from Michael Storrings "A Very New York Christmas"....
In 1907, Adolph Ochs, publisher of the "New York Times" lowered a 600 pound wrought-iron ball from atop the Times building on 42nd Street to mark the moment the new year began....and so commenced a tradition that continues to this day.
Each Times Square ornament is hand blown and hand painted in Poland.
